Tourism Industry Association of Canada Announces Winner Deloitte Innovator of the Year
(Saint John, NB, November 25, 2011) – Stonehammer Global Geopark, North America's first Global Geopark, was handed the Deloitte Innovator of the Year Award last night at the annual Tourism Industry Association of Canada's Award Gala. Bill Merrifield, Chair of Stonehammer Geopark, accepted the award at the event in Ottawa.
“I would like to thank everyone who has worked so hard to bring the right partners together, create engaging experiences and educate our community and visitors alike. This has been and will continue to be a community led initiative” said Bill Merrifield. “We have experienced an overwhelming level of support from our communities, stakeholders and the Global Geopark Network and we are very pleased to have been honoured with this award.”
“I am pleased to see the Stonehammer Geopark receive this prestigious commendation,” said New Brunswick Minister of Tourism & Parks and Wellness, Culture & Sport, Minister Trevor Holder. “The discovery and preservation of this region and the work that has gone into its promotion and raising awareness of the historical and geological significance of this region is highly-commendable.”
Stonehammer Geopark wants to congratulate Cliffwalk at Capilano Suspension Bridge (North Vancouver, BC) and EdgeWalk at CN Tower (Toronto, ON) on being finalists in this category. Deloitte Innovator of the Year is presented to the tourism business or organization that develops the most innovative new tourism product, service or process, or the most innovative new approach to an existing tourism product, service or process that positively impacts the tourism business or the tourism industry as a whole.
